I love any opportunity to dance and perform. Especially when it involves a special dance for my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary. My parents planned a party for the renewal of their vows joined by 32 of their closest friends and family. The party was at a local Russian venue, with lots of Russian food, music, laughter and of course, dancing.
My mom asked if I could perform at their party like I did two years ago. My answer was an instant, “Yes!”, as I jumped up and down from the excitement for the opportunity to dress up and perform. So as my mom started planning her party, I started planning my performance.
I chose to use the song, “Besame Mucho”, because it is my mom’s favorite song. This song has been part on my life as I grew up listening to my mom sing to it and play it on the piano. The dance I chose for this song was Bolero; the passionate, sensual, beautiful dance. I thought it was appropriate for the occasion.
I also wanted something fast and fun that the guests would enjoy and be able to clap along. Cha cha was the dance of choice. It’s fun, flirty and gets everyone moving. The song I chose was “Bla Bla Bla Cha Cha Cha”. I thought the guests would enjoy its playful humor and my mom approved.
Waylon Jones, my pro, put together the perfect choreography for the two songs and I worked hard to perfect my performance. I was really excited and couldn’t wait to show it off at the party :)
The performance was a surprise to my dad, who was kept in the dark about my dancing. It was also a surprise for the guests at the party. To me, it was an opportunity to do what I love; dance.
I felt amazing after dancing. I can’t express what it’s like to know how hard I work on my dancing and to see all those tears, blood, pain, and sweat pay off. Thank you, Travis, for your constant love and support. Thank you, Waylon, for being an amazing pro, teacher and dancer. Thank you, mom and dad, for the opportunity to dance :)
