Studio Party and a Tango Show

The last time I attended a studio party was when I was a kid taking ballroom and latin dance classes at the SuperStars Dance Studio back in the 90’s.  I always had fun at the parties, so when I learned that Jones Dance Ballroom Studios was having their own studio party, I was very excited! I was even more thrilled when I was asked to do a show demonstration, or a performance, with my instructor, Waylon Jones.  I was completely honored to dance and my excitement couldn’t be contained.

The Tango was chosen for our performance and the private lessons begin.  With the first Tango step, I knew I needed a lot of work and the scary part was that I didn’t have a lot of time to practice.  My private lessons were about an hour long and took place once a week.  I had a little over a month to learn the routine and perfect it for the show.  I worked really hard at the Tango and before I knew it, the month flew by and I was at my last rehearsal.  Whether I was ready or not, the party was less than 24 hours away!

The Ballroom and Latin Dance Studio Party started at 7 with a group class followed by the party that everyone has been waiting for.  There were two performances that night.  The first one was a very creative and interesting Waltz/Cha-Cha combo performed by my instructor and another student.  It was very fun to watch and everyone loved it!  The next performance was mine.

I was given a 15 minute notice so I quickly went to change into my Tango dress.  I was really excited and nervous, but the support from Travis and my friends helped calm my nerves and I was ready to go!  An announcement was made and I was led onto the dance floor to demonstrate the Tango.  For the first time that night, I realized that this was it and whatever happens, happens.  I knew it was only a show demonstration and not a competition, but to me, it was one and the same.  I really wanted to do my best for the audience, my instructor, my friends and my husband, Travis.  It was my first performance in over ten years and I felt great!

So, for everyone that’s been asking, here is the video of the Tango performance:

Overall, the Ballroom and Latin Dance Studio Party had a great turn out and everyone had an amazing time.  It was nice to dance socially and to be able to watch others dance.  I think what made the evening great for me was that at the end of the night, I felt proud about my Tango performance (even though as I watch it back now, I can find a lot of things that I still need to improve, but as I’ve been told, that never ends).  What made the evening special, was that Travis surprised me by taking the group class and dancing with me at the party :)  It was a perfect evening and I can’t wait for next Ballroom and Latin Dance Studio Party!!!

Brava! Love the arm stylings! That’s very impressive that you were able to put that all together in a month at just one lesson per week. :applause:

    Awww…you have an awesome husband!

Thanks, TC! I would have loved more practice, but I’ll take what I can get :)
