Review of Self Tanning Products for Dance

So I’ve tried several self tanning products on the market since I am as white as a ghost and I needed to look tanned for my ballroom dance competition. Here is my review of different self tanning products that I’ve tried:

1. Neutrogena MicroMist Airbrush Sunless Tan

The Good: The great thing about this product is that it dries quickly. I like how it applies in a very light mist so it doesn’t streak. It also does not rub off on your clothes or bed sheets. The color lasts for several days, so you don’t necessarily have to reapply it every time you step out of the shower. It’s also one of the least expensive self tanning products on the market, so if you’re on a tight budget, this is for you.

The Bad: It doesn’t smell like rotten eggs, but it’s pretty stinky. It takes a lot more effort to spray than I’d like and it will leave you with orange elbows, knees, and any other part of your body that’s dry.  Since I am very pale,  I feel like I  have to go through a whole bottle just to look like I have some color to me and I’m still not tanned enough for the competition dance floor!

Overall: It’s ok. I’m not impressed and you get what you pay for. I’d use it again if I had to, as a last resort.

2. Sex Symbol Aerotan Instant Temporary Tanning Spray

The Good: I am in love with the color!!! It’s like one of those rich, sexy, tans with a glow straight from the beach! No wonder they call it Sex Symbol! You even smell like the beach after you use it! It’s really easy to spray on and it does not streak, but you do have to rub it in. It’s great for a single event so you can wash it off immediately after you’re done.

The Bad: I really wanted Sex Symbol to be the one, but unfortunately, I couldn’t deal with the fact that it rubs off on everything it come in contact with and the glitter was a little much for me.  Fortunately, the product doesn’t stain.

Overall: I was really, really, really disappointed!  I love the color and the smell, but hate that it comes off immediately.

3. Bronze Angel Tanning Spray

The Good: This product gave me a nice, deep tan, after several applications. It dries fairly quickly and it comes with a tanning glove so you don’t stain your hands! Because Bronze Angel is a pump and not an aerosol spray, I felt like I had more control over how much or how little product I could add to an area. It lasts for a couple of days especially if you apply several coats.

The Bad: The color is not Sex Symbol, but it’s way better than Neutrogena MicroMist. It has a slight smell to it, but it’s not too bad. It can streak if you don’t rub it in and as with Neutrogena, be careful with dry body part. It’s more expensive than the other two products, but I find that it’s well worth it!

Overall:  I like the dark tan that I got from this product and the fact that it didn’t come off on clothing so easily.  This is my top pick for the tanning products and it’s what I used at my ballroom dance competition. It dries quickly and it even though I did find some tan residue on my dress, I was able to wash it off effortlessly. I just wish that the color and smell was more like Sex Symbol.
